Two demons Madhu and Kaidapa snatched the Vedas from Brahmma and hide them under the sea. They were redeemed by Lord Vishnu and handed back to Brahmma. Yet Brahmma could not perform his creation job efficiently.
As Advised by Lord Vishnu, Brahmma worshipped Lord Shiva here and regained Gnana-wisdom on Avittam star day in the month of Aavani and resumed his creation job efficiently. As the Lord imparted Gnana to Brahamma, he is praised as Gnanapureeswarar.
